York Early Music Festival

Established in 1977, the York Early Music Festival was created to celebrate York’s array of medieval churches, guildhalls and historic houses through historically informed music making of the highest standard. The Festival is the highlight of the NCEM’s annual programme and attended by visitors from across the globe.
In 2021, the festival is delighted to be able to welcome audiences back to York! Spanning 5 days, there are a series of concerts of the highest possible quality within a secure, comfortable environment. Venue capacities are significantly reduced, and all tickets are unreserved, on arrival you will be sat within your social bubble, and each concert will last about an hour – without an interval. This time the festival theme is one of encounters – most vitally between audience and artists.
Guest artists include the internationally acclaimed violinist Rachel Podger, lutenist Jacob Heringman, bass Matthew Brook working with Peter Seymour, the Monteverdi String Band led by Oliver Webber, the Society of Strange & Ancient Instruments with their weird and wonderful Trumpet Marine project and the ever entertaining The Gesualdo Six.

With over 21 years of around the world success, expect the unexpected in this hilarious comedy experience that makes you ‘laugh so much you can’t breathe’ (GetWestLondon). A true mix of brilliant comedy and unique dramatic script. Chaos reigns right from the start as Basil, Sybil and Manuel serve a 3-course meal along with plenty of laughs.
